Module Two

Developing Your People and Improving Performance

Aim


The aim of this module is to develop the management skills of the participants to be able to confidently develop their people, lift performance and retain talent within the group.  It will also focus on dealing with underperformance and inappropriate behaviour when necessary.

Day One

Objectives

During this module you will have the opportunity to…

  • review their actions from previous sessions
  • consider the importance of developing people's skills and look at why some managers don't develop their teams
  • look at how to identify the skills gaps in teams and the range of solutions available to address learning needs
  • discuss how to get the most from a learning opportunity and look at the importance of the line manager in supporting learning
  • consider how to use delegation as a development tool and the key steps to successful delegation
  • explore the role of line mnager as coach; identifying the skills needed, creating coaching plans and using the GROW model
  • practice coaching in groups
  • put together a personal action plan 

Day Two

Objectives

During this module you will have the opportunity to…

  • review actions from Day One
  • consider why it is important to manage instances of underperformance and inappropriate behaviour
  • consider the benefits of having procedures and look at how to use them to improve performance and conduct
  • gain an overview of Antal's policies and procedures in this area
  • identify best practice and the key actions to take to ensure matters are dealt with reasonably and fairly
  • identify the importance of taking action at an early stage and how this prevents issues escalating
  • explore how to manage conflict in a Team
  • consider the reasons why managers may not deal with situations that arise and the implications of not doing so
  • identify the skills needed to this area to handle situations effectively
  • practice the skills identified via case study work
  • put together a personal action plan

The event will be participative with a variety of training aids used to cater for the differing learning styles likely to be present in the group.  Respecting the need to confidentiality delegates are invted to share their experiences in this area and to ask questions at any time.
