Follow Up Workshop

Aim

The aim of this workshop is to review progress and to give delegates an opportunity to develop their management skills through practice.  The workshop will focus on key skill areas covered in the Management Development Programme (MDP), particularly those relating to retaining and developing their staff.
 

Objectives

During this session you will have the opportunity to…

  • discuss and review progress on their action plans
  • share experience and ideas
  • practice some of the key skills covered in the MDP 

Delegates will be given a series of work based scenarios prior to the workshop and will then have an opportunity to role play these scenarios with observers in the group offering feedback.  A senior manager will play the part of the team member in all reolplays.

The scenarios will follow the first few months of managing a new team member and will include...

  • exchanging expectations and establishing objectives with the new team member (to practice being specific in laying down expectations and managing any unrealistic expectations)
  • delegating a piece of work to a team member (to practice delegation and coaching skills)
  • giving a piece of development feedback to the new team member and coaching them in moving forward (to practise feedback and coaching skills where someone is not quite coming up to scratch)
  • Holding a meeting to address an underperformance or misconduct issue

Each participlant will be given feedback from the group, the trainer and senior manager and will be able to incorporate their into their actions and development plan.
