Managing Meetings
Aim
Most meetings are 50% longer than they need to be. This course aims to provide participants with the skills to manage a meeting effectively and efficiently, concentrating on the role of the Chairperson.
Objectives
During this session participants will have an opportunity to …
- identify the key steps to successful meetings
- consider the structure of an effective meeting and look at the different meetings they may attend
- learn how to set up meetings including pre meeting paperwork
- consider what follow up actions are required after a meeting
- explore the concept of rights and responsibilities in a meeting and identify what to include in a team meeting charter
- develop skills of listening, summarising and note taking (considering the note taking method using mind mapping)
- identify how to encourage participation in a meeting
- look at how to keep a meeting on track
- consider the different styles of minutes that may be useful
- put their skills into practice
The event will be participative with a variety of training aids used to cater for the differing learning styles likely to be present in the group. Respecting the need for confidentiality delegates are invited to share their experiences in this area and to ask questions at any time.
