About Focal Point

Being Effective in the Workplace
Aim
The aim of this course is to provide an opportunity for the participants to consider how to increase their effectiveness in the workplace.
Objectives
During this workshop participants will have the opportunity to…
- identify the differing expectations people have of them; from their colleagues, from their own managers and of themselves and how they meet them
- consider how to gain and retain respect
- identify the roles they like to take when working in a team and the importance of team working
- identify the components of effective communication; including questioning and listening skills
- identify the different styles of behaviour they may encounter in the workplace; aggressive, non-assertive and assertive behaviour
- consider their own behaviour in “difficult” situations
- consider the barriers to dealing effectively with difficult people
- consider how they can communicate more effectively to overcome this and focus on saying “No” at appropriate times
- identify problem analysing and problem solving techniques
- consider their own action planning
The event will be participative with a variety of training aids used to cater for the differing learning styles likely to be present in the group. Respecting the need for confidentiality delegates are invited to share their experiences in this area and to ask questions at any time.
