Aim

This course is aimed at new managers or managers who have had no formal training to help them fulfil their role effectively.

Objectives

During the session participants will have an opportunity to …
  • Identify what management is and what kind of managers we respect
  • Consider how a role changes when moving from a non management role to a management one
  • Look at agreeing and exchanging expectations with managers, colleagues and team members
  • Consider what motivates people
  • Explore different behaviour types and consider
    • how assertive behaviour helps build effective working relationships and achieves results
    • the difference between passive, aggressive and  assertive behaviour
  • Identify how to adapt your leadership style, depending on the situation
  • Look at the key stages in the work cycle, including objective setting, monitoring performance and giving feedback
  • Identify the keys steps to effective delegation

The event will be participative with a variety of training aids used to cater for the differing learning styles likely to be present in the group. Respecting the need for confidentiality delegates are invited to share their experiences in this area and to ask questions at any time.
